In June, we held a workshop on Lignocellulosic Biorefineries in Vodice, Croatia, as part of the GREEN 2024 conference (https://iaesp.org/egc-hr/). During the workshop, we presented the VALREO project and the first results of our research on the thermo-chemical and biological treatment of oilcakes to obtain new products, which we are currently working on in the framework of the project. Prof. Mohammad Teherzadeh from Borås University (Sweden), one of the world’s leading experts in the processing of lignocellulosic materials, presented the latest developments in the pre-treatment and production of bio-based products from lignocellulosic biomass. Other speakers presented the importance of biomass cascading, with a focus on the development of sustainable production and insulation processes, the importance of life cycle assessment of biomass for electricity and heat generation, and the benefits of using NMR technology in the characterisation of lignocellulosic biomass as end products.
