The 2nd VALREO workshop of the “Lignocellulosic Biorefineries” project was held at the Faculty of Food Technology Osijek on February 17th, 2025.
The workshop was opened by Prof. Dr. Sc. Marina Tišma (PTFOS, UniOS, Croatia) who presented the program and key topics of the workshop in the introductory part. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Aleksandra Petrovič (FKKT, UniMaribor, Slovenia) presented the results of thermochemical processing of fermented pumpkin cakes. One of the world’s leading experts in the processing of lignocellulosic materials, Prof. Dr. Sc. Mohammad Teherzadeh (UniBorås, Borås, Sweden), gave a presentation on the latest achievements in the preprocessing of lignocellulosic raw materials and their application in biorefineries. The importance of NMR technology in the characterization of lignocellulosic materials was presented by Dr. Sc. Jelena Parlov Vuković (IRB, Zagreb, Croatia), emphasizing the advantages of this technique in the analysis of the structure of lignin and its subunits.
The workshop concluded with a discussion and closing comments by Prof. Dr. Sc. Marina Tišma, who highlighted the importance of exchanging knowledge and experiences during the workshop and emphasized the key role of multidisciplinary research in the biotechnological processing of lignocellulosic biomass, which further strengthened the cooperation. After the successfully conducted workshop, a visit to the laboratories of the Faculty of Food Technology Osijek was organized, where the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the experimental methods and research capacities of the Faculty.
